Dubious Raptor Moment #38

September 2004: Nav Bhatia Leaks VC Trade Demand
Thus far on our list of the Top 50 Most Dubious Moments in Toronto Raptor History, we've already rhymed off quite a few trade demands.  Vince Carter's trade demand wasn't surprising nor dubious in the least.  After all, Raptor management had refused to even interview Dr.J who was VC's choice for the open GM position and then they revoked his mother's ACC parking privileges so we all knew the trade demand was coming sooner or later.  What made the moment so dubious was that it was left to Toronto Superfan Nav Bhatia to unofficially announce VC's trade demand after attending his wedding.

It's kind of hilarious that Vince made his trade demand to the GM of a Hyundai dealership and not to the GM of the Raptors, but in the end it really just summed up what a big pussy the franchise was counting on.

Carter could have made the trade demand public in a number of accepted ways -- through his agent, through his PR, through Raptor management, through his mother, through his own gawd-damned mouth -- but no the Toronto Raptors employed a star performer who was cowardly enough to let the Superfan pass along the bad news.  Just because he plays with balls doesn't mean he has them.

On the flipside, it was nice to see the Toronto basketball media get scooped by a car salesman.
