October 1995: The Naismith Cup is born
Ahh, The Naismith Cup. The hairs on my neck sill stand up with national pride whenever I think of Rod Black introducing Canada to its greatest new sports rivalry. No longer would Canadians be burdened by stodgy old CIAU Championships or Grey Cup Finals (or actual NBA games for that matter). Now, we ignorant basketball fans would be treated to the spectacle of an annual game featuring a collection of disinterested American players stuck on expansion teams competing to see who sucked the least. If the Naismith Cup were any more forced or manufactured, Zan Tabak would have come out wearing a beaver pelt, dunking the head of Pierre Trudeau into a peach basket.
